France: « No more mobile phones in schools and 'collèges' as of the 2018 return », announces the Minister for National Education

« No more mobile phones in schools and “collèges” as of the 2018 return », announces Jean-Michel Blanquer
Le Monde, 10 December 2017 (translation)

The measure, confirmed Sunday by the Minister for National Education, was a campaign promise of Emmanuel Macron.

Philippe Huguen / AFP
Mobile phones will be banned in schools and “collèges” as of the 2018 return, announced the Minister for National Education, Jean-Michel Blanquer, Sunday 10 December, during a broadcast of “Le Grand Jury RTL-LCI-Le Figaro”. “We are working on the issue, this can take different forms,” he said. “You may need it for educational purposes, for emergency situations, so mobile phones must be limited.”

This was a campaign promise of Emmanuel Macron.

Many teachers are alarmed by the “scourge” and the “endless war” posed by mobile phones at school. More than eight out of ten teenagers were equipped with a smartphone, according to a 2015 Credoc study, compared to 20% in 2011. The trend begins towards primary school, when students start to have one sometimes from fourth grade onwards when they go to school alone because it reassures parents to be able to reach them at any time.

International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP): Revision of High-Frequency Guidelines

REVISION OF THE HF GUIDELINES
www.icnirp.org, 7 December 2017

Munich, Germany, 7 December 2017

Note on the Revision of the High-Frequency Portion of the ICNIRP 1998 EMF Guidelines

ICNIRP’s current guidelines for the high-frequency (100 kHz – 300 GHz) portion of the electromagnetic spectrum were published in 1998. Given the large body of relevant research that has been generated since those 1998 guidelines, ICNIRP is now revising the guidelines to incorporate this literature.

The revision of the guidelines has been underway since 2014, and a public consultation version of the updated guidelines is expected within the first half of 2018. Given this timing, ICNIRP has been asked whether, in the interim period, the current guidelines can still be considered as protective. This is a very reasonable question, particularly given that changes are anticipated in the revised guidelines.

How Electromagnetic Radiation Affects Male Fertility

How EMF Radiation Effects Male Fertility
In Knowledge by Christian, 6 December 2017

There can be a stigma out there, or an assumption, that when a couple is having a hard time conceiving, that it is likely the woman’s issue. This really isn’t the case, in fact about 50% of the time, male infertility issues are the reason the couple has failed to conceive.

My wife and I struggled with infertility for almost 2 years before we were finally able to have our baby girl. So this is personal for me. Although ultimately we were able to conceive, and we did find some issues along the way that were unrelated to environmental issues, I needed to understand how EMF radiation effects male fertility.

I found most of this when I was just researching for myself, how EMF radiation effects male fertility. I needed to know so I could do everything possible to make changes in my life. So do me a favor, if you get anything at all out of this article, consider sharing it with friends and family. You never know how information can have a positive effect on those around you. Massachusetts: New Water Meters Spark Radiation Fears in Housatonic

Digital water meter
New water meters spark radiation fears in Housatonic
by Heather Bellow, The Berkshire Eagle, 5 December 2017

GREAT BARRINGTON — There was a water meter fight in Housatonic last week.

A plan already underway by the Housatonic Water Works Co. to replace analog water meters with a new wireless model has customers worried about bursts of radiation from its transmitter, which sends water use data to the company using cellular networks.

The private water company and meter manufacturer say the level of radiation is less than that emitted by a text message, and is equivalent to "a brief cell phone call." But ratepayers are still wary.

"You're trying to force these meters on people when in fact they're dangerous," said Christopher Rowland, a resident, speaking to James Mercer, the water company's co-owner and treasurer.

Texas: Court Hears Case Over Worker Fired for Smart Meter Testimony

TEXAS - Court hears case over worker fired for smart-meter testimony
Green Wire, 5 December 2017

A Texas utility is hoping to overturn a labor board ruling that it unlawfully fired an employee for raising safety concerns about smart meters.

Oncor Electric Delivery Co. discharged 34-year employee Bobby Reed in 2013 after he testified to Texas lawmakers that smart meters led to fires in consumers' homes. The National Labor Relations Board ruled that the testimony should have been protected under the National Labor Relations Act.

But an attorney for Oncor today argued to a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals of the District of Columbia Circuit that the fired employee's testimony didn't fall under those protections.

"The board failed to apply the law," David Lonergan, the attorney, argued today in court. "He didn't bring up any employee concern. ... We don't think it was protected."

At issue is testimony that Reed gave at a hearing that the Texas Senate Business and Commerce Committee convened in October 2012 to weigh consumer complaints about smart meters.

Phonegate: The Health and Industrial Issues of a Global Scandal

We are more than six billion persons in the world using a mobile phone. It has become an indispensable object of our daily life. Who is interested in the health risks from cell phones? Who has thoroughly read the user manual of their cell phone? Who has studied the regulations that control phones being placed on the market?

Not many of us! Most of us are seduced into trusting manufacturers and national and international organizations which ensure that mobile phones respect our health and safety.

The failure of national and international regulatory agencies

Unfortunately, our confidence has been violated. Our international system of control and regulation has completely failed. This new health and industrial scandal has been called “Phonegate”, echoing the similar scandal of “Dieselgate”, affecting the Volkswagen Group and other world auto manufacturers.

The Federal Council wants a Switzerland that does not have to be ashamed of its digital capabilities. In terms of telephony, the government wants to "place Switzerland at the highest level in international comparison," according to its statement when the strategy "Digital Switzerland" was adopted in April 2016. This was repeated on the Swiss Day of Digital Technology on November 21st. To achieve this, the Federal Council is planning the introduction of 5G on its territory, an operation that is faced with many obstacles.

Why You Need to Stop Carrying Your Mobile Phone in Your Pocket or Bra

UPDATE (5 December 2017):  Why do such warnings get so little attention?  The authorities which are supposed to protect our health and industry are doing a great job hiding the truth about the risks of wireless radiation.  We, as adults, must do our own research and take precautionary measures to limit exposure, and especially, protect our children who are much more vulnerable to microwave radiation.

Why You Need to Stop Carrying Your Mobile Phone in Your Pocket or Bra
by Tony Isaacs, thetruthaboutcancer.com

If you’re a man and you carry your mobile phone in your pants pocket, or a woman who tucks her phone into her bra or bra strap… chances are you aren’t aware of the damage this practice may be causing. You’re not going to hear about it from the cell phone companies who are resisting mounting evidence about the dangers of mobile phone radiation.

Read on for some of the major areas of health concerns (including cancer!) and what cell phone studies have uncovered thus far…

Apple Warns Customers to Never Use or Carry an iPhone in Your Pocket (2012 Article)

UPDATE (5 December 2017):  The article below is from 2012 - how many mobile phone users have ignored this warning and continue to use or carry a cell phone against the body?  This warning concerns not just Apple iPhones but nearly ALL cell phones.

How many cell phone users are still ignoring this warning?  The U.S. government is aware of the potential dangers from cell phone radiation! Cell phones are NOT the safe consumer devices the industry wants us to believe.

Apple warns customers to never use or carry an iPhone in your pocket

…..or you may be exposed to radiation that exceeds the federal safety limit

Apple has issued a safety warning in every iPhone user manual – but, they deceptively printed it in tiny print and located it in a section where no one will see it. Yep, it’s in yours! Go take a look in the section on radio frequency compliance – in the section that talks about SAR (what’s SAR?) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) required warning to never use or carry the iPhone on your body. You’ll need a magnifying glass, however as the print is so small, it is barely legible with the naked eye. Here’s a quote of what you’ll find in the user guide that came with your iPhone. France's National Health Agency Calls for Reducing Children's Wireless Exposures - Article on the July 2016 Report of ANSES "Exposure to Radiofrequencies and Child Health"

This is the report from ANSES that presented an analysis of test reports of SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) levels by the French National Frequencies Agency (ANFR).  The 2016 report stated  that in 2015, 89 percent of cell phones  tested in direct body contact  had a SAR higher than the maximum limit value of 2 W/kg and 25 percent had a SAR higher than 4 W/kg.

Dr. Marc Arazi, a French physician, made an inquiry to see the actual data. He was first denied the information by ANFR.  After a court challenge and months of pressure, ANFR posted the information on their website in June 2017. The information, however, is not complete, and Dr. Arazi has been obliged to again take legal action against ANFR in order for them to release all the data on the results of the mobile phone tests, filing an appeal with the Administrative Tribunal of Melun on 1 December 2017.

Dr. Arazi maintains a blog on the issue.

France's National Health Agency Calls for Reducing Children's Wireless Exposures
Environmental Health Trust, sbwire.com, 11 July 2016

"All wireless devices, from tablets, remote controlled toys, wireless toys, baby monitors, and cell phones should be subjected to tighter regulatory limits."

Teton Village, WY -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/11/2016 -- On July 8, the French National Agency of Health Security of Food, Environment and Labour (ANSES) published a new scientific report "Radiofrequency Exposure and the Health of Children". Concluding that children are more vulnerable to radio frequency (RF) wireless exposures, the French report recommends immediately reducing exposures to wireless radiation from all wireless devices for young children. Acknowledging the inadequacies of current outdated RF regulations, ANSES recommends strengthening RF exposure limits with child protective safety margins and developing more sophisticated premarket test methods to fully assess human exposures to RF radiation from wireless devices. The new report has made headlines across the country.

Sperm, Fetuses, Children, Adults... the "Planetary Cataclysm" of Electromagnetic Fields (2016 Article)

Do waves make us sick?
by Adorian de Meeûs, lalibre.be, 16 May 2016
(translated by the Editor of "Towards Better Health")

"Blood cancer, Alzheimer's disease, infertility..."

Why are more and more persons becoming hypersensitive to waves (3 to 4% in Belgium)?  Cell phones, Wi-Fi, high power transmission lines... are they causing risks for cancer, Alzheimer's, autism, low fertility?  Oncologist and internationally recognized specialist in the effects of electromagnetic fields on health, Prof. Dominique Belpomme, is Saturday's guest of LaLibre.be.  He denounces the "seriousness of policy denial" and ideological corruption" regarding health.

Dr. Dominique Belpomme is professor of oncology at Paris-Descartes University (Paris V), author of scientific publications, member of several international learned societies, president of ARTAC (Association for Research on Treatment against Cancer).  He directs the European Cancer and Environment Research Institute in Brussels.  Extracts from the conversation in full in Sélection LaLibre.be:

Mobile Phone Use While Driving Costs West Aussie Millions in Fines

Last year, 26 people died as a result of distracted driving.

Mobile phone use while driving costs West Aussies millions in fines
by Kate Campbell, thewest.com.au, 3 December 2017

A record number of WA motorists are paying millions of dollars in fines for driving while texting, talking and using social media.

In the first six months of 2017, police issued 9017 mobile phone fines — a massive 37 per cent jump from the 6567 fines doled out in the same period the year before.

This is a rate of 50 drivers being caught red-handed every day, with cops increasingly perching themselves on freeway overpasses or riding in plain-clothes on motorbikes to catch sneaky motorists.

The crackdown on WA’s deadly mobile phone addiction has generated a total of $3.6 million in fines revenue. The number of fines issued has continued to rise since penalties for mobile phone offending were toughened in 2014, increased from a $250 fine to $400 and three demerit points.

iPad Generation's Fingers Not Ready to Write, Teachers Say

iPad generation's fingers not ready to write, teachers say

Kindergarten and early primary teachers have aired their concerns that the rise of touchscreen devices means more children are starting school not ready to learn handwriting.

Children's preference for screen time over craft time has
been blamed for a drop in fine motor skills.
(Michael Hall/Riser)
A Saturday morning discussion about the benefits of technology for children prompted Carolyn to send an SMS to ABC Radio Melbourne.

A primary school teacher, Carolyn said she and her colleagues had noticed "a big decline in fine motor skills" among children arriving at prep and kindergarten.

Carolyn and her colleagues blamed their young students' declining dexterity on their use of touchscreen devices such as tablets and smartphones.

"Children are holding crayons and scissors less and making fewer things with their hands," she said.

"We've noticed that sometimes, even if you pass a pencil or a paintbrush to a child, they're not quite sure how to receive it and how to hold it."

[Press release] Phonegate : New legal proceedings against ANFR and initial reaction to the communiqué of Nicolas Hulot

[Press release] Phonegate : New legal proceedings against ANFR and initial reaction to the communiqué of Nicolas Hulot
by Marc Arazi, arazi.fr, 2 December 2017

Initial reaction to the communiqué of Nicolas Hulot

By coincidence, our second legal action comes the same day as the launch of an information campaign by Nicolas Hulot, Minister for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition, on the six proper uses of mobile phones. Our mobilization to obtain from the public authorities a better awareness of users bears fruit. We regret, however, that this initial position of the Minister is to a large extent part of the denial of the health risks by the industrial sector. Contrary to what has been stated in his communiqué, the measures proposed seem to us to be far removed from the important recommendations of the French National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (ANSES) in its July 2016 report, “Exposure to Radiofrequencies and Child Health”.

Effects of Wireless Technologies on People, Animals, and Bees

ONE OF OUR POPULAR POSTS: This is a particularly appealing article, especially the last part about the harmful effects of cordless DECT phones on animals.

"Today, the natural information and functional system of humans, animals and plants has been superimposed by an unprecedented dense and energetic mesh of artificial magnetic, electrical and electromagnetic fields, generated by numerous mobile radio and wireless communication technologies. The consequences of this development have also been predicted by the critics for many decades and can now no longer be ignored. Bees and other insects disappear, birds avoid certain areas and are disoriented in other locations. Humans suffer from functional disorders and diseases. And those that are hereditary are passed on to the next generation as existing defects.”

That's the sobering conclusion of years of research by Dr. Ulrich Warnke, an internationally renowned scientist from the University of the Saarland, in his recent report, "Bees, Birds and Mankind – destroying nature by electrosmog".

Microwave radiation from wireless technology causes deleterious health issues.
healthunlocked.com, 3 years ago - Extracts

... When my daughter returned from Italy within 2 weeks she was sick and house bound. She started having severe pressure headaches and she believed her head was going to explode. She had neck pain and face pain. Some days every tooth in her mouth ached and she has lovely teeth, not one cavity. Then her hand started to tremble and she started to have severe dizzy spells and it felt like her heart would stop and jerk her when it started again (arrhythmia). She was afraid to drive the car in case she passed out and killed someone. Then her symptoms started to merge with mine, heart palpitations, muscle and joint pain, severe insomnia, ringing in the ears or sounds of white noise (tinnitus), burning in the back of the head, tingling/itchy/burning skin, chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, severe memory loss, and extremely poor concentration. It goes without saying we suffered from terrible anxiety.

Mobile Phones and Brain Cancer.  Are You Worried?
by Rick Morton, mamamia.com, 8 May 2012

Dr Charlie Teo isn’t a kook. He is the best brain surgeon in the country [Australia]. He knows the inside of your head like you know the back of your hand. He’s seen the rise in a certain type of brain cancer.

And he’s worried.

Here’s what some of what he wrote on The Punch yesterday: [We could no longer find this article.]

“There are three undisputed facts about the link between mobile phones and brain tumours. Firstly, the jury is still out. Secondly, the number of mobile phone users is increasing rapidly and currently stands at over five billion worldwide. Thirdly, IF there is a causal link between exposure to non-ionising radiation and brain tumours, then the social and financial consequences would be devastating and on a scale never before witnessed in history.

Maria Feychting of the
Karolinska Institute cites
pathology bias.
A few days ago, I received an urgent warning from a longtime contact in Sweden. An industry associate had told him that the U.S. National Toxicology Program’s study on cell phone cancer risks was screwed up and essentially “useless.”

I was tempted to disregard it as nothing more than a corporate delusion. But the original source was said to be Maria Feychting, a professor at the Karolinska Institute and the vice chair of the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). She had cast doubt on the landmark $25 million NTP RF–animal study in a talk presented at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences —the institute that awards the Nobel prizes in physics and chemistry every year.

I decided I had to check out the rumor.

New Study Reveals Cell Phone Radiation Headache Link

Cell Phone Headaches – New Study Reveals Cell Phone Radiation Headache Link
Posted by Lloyd Burrell, electricsense.com, 14 November 2017

Over the last two decades the use of mobile devices has grown rapidly across the globe. Cell phones, in particular, have grown to become an integral part of our lives.

As of 2016, Statista estimated that about 63 percent of the world’s population owned and used a cell phone. The number of cell phone users in the world is predicted to pass the five billion mark by 2019. (1)

Cell phones communicate by sending and receiving Radio Frequency Radiation (RFR), which is a form of microwave radiation within the electromagnetic spectrum, from their antennas to a cell phone tower.

The RF radiation emitted by cell phones is supposedly harmless as long as it complies with government guidelines. Unfortunately this is simply not true. Numerous studies have found a link between cell phone radiation and a number of symptoms, including headaches, giving rise to a phenomenon known as ‘cell phone headaches’.

Update on Massachusetts Bill S.2080 Seeking to Provide Medical Training on Wireless-Related Issues and Insurance Coverage
by Cece Doucette, Technology Safety Educator, 30 November 2017

Thank you to everyone who has sent in testimony for the MA EMF Bills. Yesterday went well at the MA State House hearing for the bill to provide EMF medical training and insurance coverage. For many bills, the legislators hear testimony then simply call up the next testifier. After my testimony, and Dr. Lisa Nagy, Government Liaison for the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, they asked questions. I am very grateful to Dr. Nagy for clearing her schedule to be there, and also to parents Keith Marciniak and Laura Melanson for sharing their journeys into EMFs.

Here are our testimonies, in the order presented:

My testimony covers the annual cost of environmental toxins, insurers excluding coverage for EMF harm which could leave the Commonwealth liable for damages, the Fay School lawsuit, the EUROPAEM EMF medical guidelines, Wireless Education training, and the new Generation Zapped film being screened throughout the Commonwealth.

Smartphone addiction creates imbalance in brain, study suggests
sciencedaily.com, 30 November 2017

Date: November 30, 2017
Source: Radiological Society of North America
Summary: Researchers have found an imbalance in the brain chemistry of young people addicted to smartphones and the internet.

Researchers have found an imbalance in the brain chemistry of young people addicted to smartphones and the internet, according to a study presented today at the annual meeting of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

According to a recent Pew Research Center study, 46 percent of Americans say they could not live without their smartphones. While this sentiment is clearly hyperbole, more and more people are becoming increasingly dependent on smartphones and other portable electronic devices for news, information, games, and even the occasional phone call.

Along with a growing concern that young people, in particular, may be spending too much time staring into their phones instead of interacting with others, come questions as to the immediate effects on the brain and the possible long-term consequences of such habits.

This month the National Toxicology Program (NTP) of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) updated the cell phone information page on its website and the fact sheet which summarizes the NTP cell phone radiation study. See below for a summary of the study and its findings.

The NTP's website indicates that the NIEHS has warned its "federal regulatory partners" (i.e., the Federal Communications Commission and the Food and Drug Administration) that the NTP's research found that cell phone radiation caused cancer in male rats to enable these agencies to provide the latest guidance to the public about safe ways to use cell phones and other radiofrequency radiation-emitting devices.

Phonegate : Initial Response from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
by Marc Arazi, arazi.fr, 30 November 2017

As part of its ongoing support for the health and industrial scandal of Phonegate, the American organization, Environmental Health Trust (EHTrust), chaired by Dr. Devra Davis, wished to engage the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the subject of the tests conducted on the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) by the French National Frequencies Agency (ANFR) between 2012 and 2015 on the real use (in contact with the body) of several hundred mobile phones. Full measurements were published for the first time by the French National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (ANSES) in a July 8, 2016 report, “Exposure to Radiofrequencies and Child Health”.

The Executive Director of the Environmental Health Trust (EHT), Theodora Scarato, wrote to the FDA in June and September 2017 to inform them of the results of these tests and of my action as whistleblower for a better protection of the health of mobile phone users, thanks to a much stricter regulation that does not allow manufacturers to place on world markets mobile phones potentially at risk.

Göteborg, Sweden) In an unprecedented study on the experiences of women working at two Samsung factories in Vietnam, a report released this week documents health and workplace violations by the electronics industry giant. The workers’ experiences of frequent fainting, dizziness, miscarriages, standing for eight-to-twelve hours, and alternating day/night shift work are documented in a report released this week by the Hanoi-based Research Center for Gender, Family and Environment in Development (CGFED) and IPEN, a global network of environment and health NGOs working to reduce harmful chemicals.

Samsung dominates the global phone market as well as the electronics sector and economy of Vietnam, where 50% of its smart phones are produced. The electronics sector is a significant area of growth for Vietnam, as electronics exports outpace other exports. However, Vietnam has no labor codes specifically protecting the health of electronics industry workers, who are overwhelmingly women.

Non-ionizing radiation comes from sources like power lines, microwaves, cellphones and wifi devices

BOSTON (WWLP) – Devices found in and around your home, like cellphones and microwaves, emit non-ionizing radiation. Some people are concerned this could cause health problems, cancer and insomnia.

We are exposed to low levels of radiation every day and too much exposure could damage your tissue, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Lawmakers are considering a bill that calls for the state to increase medical awareness and insurance coverage of injury from non-ionizing radiation: radiation that comes from sources like power lines, microwaves, cellphones and wifi devices.

The Monsanto Papers, Part 2 - Reaping a Bitter Harvest

Today, 27 November 2017, the European Union approved the use of glyphosate for another five years.

The Monsanto Papers, Part 2 — Reaping a bitter harvest
Stéphane Horel, Stéphane Foucart, Le Monde, 21 November 2017 (translation)

In order to save glyphosate, the Monsanto corporation has undertaken an effort to destroy the United Nations' cancer agency by any means possible. Here is part two of an investigation from Le Monde.

Editors Note: This month Le Monde won the Prix Varenne Presse quotidienne nationale (Varenne award for the national daily press) for their Monsanto Papers series, an investigation on the worldwide war the Monsanto corporation has started in order to save glyphosate, originally published in June.

Below is part two, originally published June 2, 2017, translated by the Health and Environment Alliance.

They had promised it was "safer than table salt" – but that was in the advertisements.

It is the most widely used herbicide in the world. It is the main ingredient in their flagship product, Roundup, the bedrock on which their firm has built its economic model, its wealth and its reputation. A product which has been on the market for more than 40 years and became a best-seller with the development of genetically-modified seeds called "Roundup Ready."

It is this product, glyphosate, that could in fact be carcinogenic.

Controversial Paper Suggests Wi-Fi Exposure More Dangerous To Kids Than Previously Thought (January 2015 Article)

Controversial Paper Suggests Wi-Fi Exposure More Dangerous To Kids Than Previously Thought
by Robert J. Szczerba , CONTRIBUTOR, Forbes, 13 January 2015

Opinions expressed by Forbes Contributors are their own.

(Photo):  Do the benefits of immersive learning applications outweigh the dangers of increased cellular and Wi-Fi exposure for children? (Image credit: Intel Free Press via Wikipedia)

Most parents would be concerned if their children had significant exposure to lead, chloroform, gasoline fumes, or the pesticide DDT. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IRIC), part of the United Nations’ World Health Organization (WHO), classifies these and more than 250 other agents as Class 2B Carcinogens - possibly carcinogenic to humans. Another entry on that same list is radiofrequency electromagnetic fields (RF/EMF). The main sources of RF/EMF are radios, televisions, microwave ovens, cell phones, and Wi-Fi devices.

Uh-oh. Not another diatribe about the dangers of our modern communication systems? Obviously, these devices and the resulting fields are extremely (and increasingly) common in modern society. Even if we want to, we can’t eliminate our exposure, or our children’s, to RF/EMF. But, we may need to limit that exposure, when possible.

Big Tobacco Finally Tells the Truth in Court-Ordered Ad Campaign

Big Tobacco finally tells the truth in court-ordered ad campaign
by MAGGIE FOX, NBC News, 26 November 2017

Smoking kills 1,200 people a day. The tobacco companies worked to make them as addictive as possible. There is no such thing as a safer cigarette.

Ads with these statements hit the major television networks and newspapers this weekend, but they are not being placed by the American Cancer Society or other health groups. They're being placed by major tobacco companies, under the orders of the federal courts.

"The ads will finally run after 11 years of appeals by the tobacco companies aimed at delaying and weakening them," the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, American Lung Association, Americans for Nonsmokers' Rights, National African American Tobacco Prevention Network and the Tobacco-Free Kids Action Fund said in a joint statement.

"It's a pretty significant moment," the American Cancer Society's Cliff Douglas said. "This is the first time they have had to 'fess up and tell the whole truth."

Hardly any demand for children's app - Digital piggy bank devours TV million - Private Banking with Pigi instead of Platinum.

Credit Suisse bosses are proud of their youngest baby. It is called Digipigi, consists of a computer app and a digital piggy bank and should bring children to the bank early.

It's great, they say. In fact, hardly anyone wants the app. In Google Play, the US giant's electronic store, the Digipigi app has a non-measurable demand.

Between 50 and 100 people have previously downloaded the Digipigi program on their mobile phone.

Digipigi, a Potential Health Risk to Children: Letter to "Family First Switzerland"

We objected to this photo in the
article because, if connected to Wi-Fi,
the iPad should not be held on a
child's lap.
Today, we mailed this letter to the group, "Family First Switzerland" after we saw their online article promoting the Digipigi:  "That`s why Digipigi can teach kids in Switzerland about money”.  For now, the connected piggy bank is sold only in Switzerland, however, the idea may catch on with banks in other countries.  If this happens  in the United States, we promised to alert the group, Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood which has clout regarding forcing manufacturers to pull connected toys from the market.  The group shares our concerns about the impact of a device such as Digipigi on a child's development.

Promotion of Digipigi

Dear Sir/Madam,

We were very concerned to read the article, “That`s why Digipigi can teach kids in Switzerland about money” on your site.

The Digipigi, destined for children from age 3, is a potential health risk to children. It functions with a smartphone and Wi-Fi connection, exposing the child to radiofrequency (RF) radiation each time the child uses the object.

Mobile Phones and Brain Cancer: 'No Evidence of Health Risk' Is Not the Same As 'Safe'

Mobile phones and brain cancer: ‘no evidence of health risk’ is not the same as 'safe'

We exist in a sea of radiofrequency radiation never before seen in human history. Are we lab rats in an experiment with no controls?

Do mobile phones cause brain cancer?

This has been an ongoing debate for decades, but whenever someone asks this question, it’s usually met with scepticism and the debate is shunned. I used to react the same way. But once I started digging into the evidence, it became clear to me that the answer was much more complex than I had imagined.

There are over 6 billion mobile phone subscriptions worldwide, many of them smart phones, with Wi-Fi functionality. Since the widespread use of mobile phones, overall brain cancer rates have not increased and this is often used as proof that mobile phones are safe. But this is short sighted, mainly because brain cancer can take decades to develop and being also rare, it’s unlikely to show up easily in data from the general population. In fact, US statistics do show an increase in brain tumours in younger people.

Switzerland: Is 5G Mobile Wireless a Health Risk?

"Peter Kälin, president of the Basel-based Doctors for Environmental Protection group, is warning that 5G uses very short waves, which will be absorbed by the skin. He adds, “The skin is already exposed to the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. 5G could present an extra cancer risk”.

Is 5G mobile wireless a health risk?

swissinfo.ch, 14 November 2017

The Swiss government has revised the allocation of frequencies, clearing the way for 5G, or fifth generation mobile wireless, but critics are warning it could be bad for our health. (SRF/swissinfo.chexternal link)

5G is 100 times faster than 4G. It’s a wireless connection built specifically to keep up with the proliferation of devices that need a mobile internet connection. The first 5G applications will be available in 2020 or 2021, allowing higher data transfers with shorter response times. That means content will download quicker, or websites will load faster. Multiple input and output antennas (MIMOs) will probably be used to boost signal anywhere 5G is offered.

Typically when a new mobile wireless technology arrives, it’s assigned a higher radio frequency. 4G occupied the frequency bands up to 20 MHz. Soon the 694-790 MHz frequency range, originally reserved for broadcasting, will be made available for broadband mobile communications applications in Switzerland. The government has also freed up frequencies in the range of 1,400 - 3,500 MHz for mobile communications.

But Peter Kälin, president of the Basel-based Doctors for Environmental Protection group, is warning that 5G uses very short waves, which will be absorbed by the skin. He adds, “The skin is already exposed to the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) radiation. 5G could present an extra cancer risk”.

Switzerland: Open Letter to the Health Care Team at the Lancy Medical Center, Geneva, on Wireless Technology

Open Letter to the Health Care Team at the Lancy Medical Center, Geneva, on Wireless Technology
by Meris Michaels, 24 November 2017 (translation)

The Lancy Medical Center includes seven physicians specializing in internal medicine, 21 psychiatrists/psychologists, one specialist in obstetrics/gynecology, and a number of therapists (https://cmlancy.ch/).

Recently opened, the Center did not have Wi-Fi in the second-floor waiting room (internal medicine) up until now. The personnel at the reception, including a number of young women, are being saturated with electrosmog (cordless phones, Wi-Fi, smartphones…). On several occasions, I talked to my doctor who is director of internal medicine at the Center, and to the personnel about this.

Imagine my disappointment recently to find Wi-Fi in the waiting room ! Being sensitive to Wi-Fi, I experience pressure in my head. My doctor is skeptical that the radiofrequency (RF) radiation emitted by wireless technologies can produce health risks. He said to me that the Centre would lose “customers” if there was no Wi-Fi in the waiting room.

Denial of the risks of radiation for health is a sign of unhealthy collusion among the medical personnel. Almost no physician in Geneva has the courage to admit there is a risk. Do they know better than the 246 scientists from 41 countries who signed the International Appeal requesting effective protection against exposure to electromagnetic waves?

"We have been attacked in the past, we have faced smear campaigns, but this time we are the target of an orchestrated campaign of an unseen scale and duration." Christopher Wild's smile quickly faded. Through the window of the high rise where the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is headquartered, the rooftops of Lyon, France, spread out behind his tall figure.

Christopher Wild is the director of the agency so he weighed every word—speaking with a seriousness appropriate for the situation. For the past two years, a blazing onslaught has targeted the institution he is running: the credibility and integrity of IARC's work are being challenged, its experts are being denigrated and harassed by lawyers, and its finances weakened.

How Evil Is Tech?

Charles Rex Arbogast/Associated Press
How Evil Is Tech?
by David Brooks, Opinion, The New York Times, 20 November 2017

Not long ago, tech was the coolest industry. Everybody wanted to work at Google, Facebook and Apple. But over the past year the mood has shifted.

Some now believe tech is like the tobacco industry — corporations that make billions of dollars peddling a destructive addiction. Some believe it is like the N.F.L. — something millions of people love, but which everybody knows leaves a trail of human wreckage in its wake.

Surely the people in tech — who generally want to make the world a better place — don’t want to go down this road. It will be interesting to see if they can take the actions necessary to prevent their companies from becoming social pariahs.

There are three main critiques of big tech.

The first is that it is destroying the young. Social media promises an end to loneliness but actually produces an increase in solitude and an intense awareness of social exclusion. Texting and other technologies give you more control over your social interactions but also lead to thinner interactions and less real engagement with the world.

Measurements of Radiofrequency Radiation with a Body-Borne Exposimeter in Swedish Schools with Wi-Fi

Measurements of Radiofrequency Radiation with a Body-Borne Exposimeter in Swedish Schools with Wi-Fi
lennarthardellenglish.wordpress.com, 23 November 2017

Our research group published recently a study on radiofrequency (RF) radiation in schools using an exposimeter. RF emissions in the classroom were measured by the teachers in order to approximate the children’s exposure. Teachers in grades 7–12 carried a body-borne exposimeter, EME-Spy 200, in school during 1–4 days of work. Eighteen teachers from seven schools participated. The mean exposure to RF radiation ranged from 1.1 to 66.1 μW/m2. The highest mean level, 396.6 μW/m2, occurred during 5 min of a lesson when the teacher let the students stream and watch YouTube videos. Maximum peaks went up to 82,857 μW/m2 from mobile phone uplink. The exposure levels varied between the different Wi-Fi systems, and if the students were allowed to use their own smartphones on the school’s Wi-Fi network or if they were connected to GSM/3G/4G base stations outside the school. An access point over the teacher’s head gave higher exposure compared with a school with a wired Internet connection for the teacher in the classroom. All values were far below International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection’s reference values, but most mean levels measured were above the precautionary target level of 3–6 μW/m2 as proposed by the Bioinitiative Report. The length of time wireless devices are used is an essential determinant in overall exposure. Measures to minimize children’s exposure to RF radiation in school would include preferring wired connections, allowing laptops, tablets and mobile phones only in flight mode and deactivating Wi-Fi access points, when not used for learning purposes.

BioInitiative Report: Medical Concerns Intensify Over Deadly Brain Tumors from Cell Phone Use

BioInitiative Report: Medical concerns intensify over deadly brain tumors from cell phone use / Orebro University Hospital, Orebro, Sweden/November 17, 2017

A new update from the the BioInitiative Working Group 2017 shows the evidence has strengthened for brain cancers related to wireless phone use. The Group has released an update analyzing scientific results of case-control studies published between 2010 and 2017 on cancers of the brain.

For glioma, a malignant brain cancer with a very poor survival rate especially for high-grade glioma, there is nearly a doubling of the risk overall if the cell phone is used for 1,640 hours or more. If the cell phone is used primarily on the same side of the head however, the odds of getting a tumor on that side of the head increase to more than two and a half times compared to those with no wireless phone exposure.

Survival time after brain tumor diagnosis is also shorter with wireless phone use in patients with glioblastoma multiforme, compared to patients with no use.

FRESNO MAN SAYS HIS IPHONE IGNITED. NOW HE’S SUING APPLE
by David Castellon, thebusinessjournal.com, 20 November 2017

Nwabueze Umeh has filed a lawsuit against Apple claiming
his iPhone 6 exploded and injured him in May.
A Fresno man is the latest plaintiff in a series of lawsuits against cell phone giant Apple, Inc. and some of its vendors after his iPhone 6 reportedly ignited and injured him.

The lawsuit was filed Oct. 11 by lawyers representing Nwabueze Umeh in Fresno County Superior Court, seeking actual and punitive damages for injuries and mental anguish suffered when the phone exploded on May 20.

Also named as a defendant is Airtouch Cellular, Inc., which reportedly sold Umeh the phone.

His lawsuit is the latest of five lawsuits filed by Gustafson Nicolai, pc, a Los Angeles-based law firm representing people around the country whom they say were injured when their older-model iPhones ignite.

Three of the other plaintiffs are adults from Harvest, Ala.; Prussia, Pa.; and Manhattan Beach, Calif., along with a minor from Pineville, La.

Smartphones Are Damaging This Generation's Mental Health

Smartphones are damaging this generation's mental healthby
Jean Twenge, Professor of Psychology, San Diego State University, weforum.org, 17 November 2017

Around 2012, something started going wrong in the lives of teens.

Even if online time doesn't directly harm mental health, it could still
adversely affect it in indirect ways.
Image:  Reuters/Edgar Su
In just the five years between 2010 and 2015, the number of U.S. teens who felt useless and joyless – classic symptoms of depression – surged 33 percent in large national surveys. Teen suicide attempts increased 23 percent. Even more troubling, the number of 13- to 18-year-olds who committed suicide jumped 31 percent.

In a new paper published in Clinical Psychological Science, my colleagues and I found that the increases in depression, suicide attempts and suicide appeared among teens from every background – more privileged and less privileged, across all races and ethnicities and in every region of the country. All told, our analysis found that the generation of teens I call “iGen” – those born after 1995 – is much more likely to experience mental health issues than their millennial predecessors.

Greenpeace calls for investigation after levels of ruthenium-106 in atmosphere near Urals site found to be 986 times norm

A secretive Russian nuclear facility has denied it was behind high atmospheric concentrations of the radioactive isotope ruthenium-106, after Russia’s meteorological service confirmed levels several hundred times the norm were found in several locations in the country during tests in late September.

Nuclear experts have said there was no evidence to suggest the leak
posed a significant hazard to human health or the environment.

Greenpeace has called for an investigation into a potential cover-up of a nuclear accident after Russia’s nuclear agency had denied European reports of increased ruthenium-106 levels. Rosgidromet, the weather monitoring service, released test data on Monday that showed levels were indeed much higher than normal. The most potent site was Argayash in the south Urals, where levels were 986 times the norm.

Argayash is about 20 miles from Mayak, a facility that reprocesses spent nuclear fuel. The plant facility issued a denial on Tuesday. “The contamination of the atmosphere with ruthenium-106 isotope registered by Rosgidromet is not linked to the activity of Mayak,” a statement said.
